Translated by John Stevens, One Robe, One Bowl is a beautiful book of free verse zen poems written by a Japanese hermit monk in the eighteenth century known as Ryokan. Considered to be enlightened, Ryokan wrote wise, compassionate, insightful, honest, poignantly sad and at the same time, humorous and uplifting poems. This collection of paintings is an ode to Ryokan and was inspired by his  enormous heart and brilliant, timeless poetry.
